I was shopping for sandwich bread, excited to make a Dagwood sandwich for dinner, and I came across Arnold Select Sandwich Thins.
I copped the seedless rye. It looks promising. Thin, 100% whole wheat, 100 calories a serving and 5 grams of fiber. (20% of recommended daily intake.)
See, I am down for any kind of bread that can boost my fiber intake, while being low in calories, and THIN. I am not a thick bread kind of cat. And even better, the bread is supposedly pretty good for grilling an toasting. And a hot, grilled sandwich is the truth.
Anyway, I made my first sandwich on some simple shit - Salmon burgers and grapeseed oil, vegetarian mayonnaise. I grilled the bread in the pan with my salmon burgers and kept it quick and simple. I think a jailhouse iron would have been just as good as the job I did, in regards to grilling the bread. HA!
Bottom line is, this was a quick and dirty attempt to make a sandwich, and it came out ok. I wasn’t putting any heart into hooking it up, and the salmon and mayonnaise angle may not have done this bread justice.
I need to try something more classic - Like a ham and cheese, grilled on the Foreman grill. THAT might be a test worth checking out!
